Come see….What the Butler Saw
Ready for some naughty, raucous comedy after all the drama that ushered in the 2017 hurricane season?! What the Butler Saw, is exactly the right cocktail of highly exaggerated and improbable high jinks to tickle your funny bone! Playwright, Joe Orton’s outrageous comedy will still make our eyes go wide and jaw drop as much as it did in the London of the 1960s, and will continue to delight contemporary audiences as it skewers a laundry list of social norms, government institutions and establishment figures in witty, urbane and profane language.
Interesting factoid about the playwright: He never saw the play performed: He was fatally struck in the head with nine hammer blows by his partner, Halliwell, who then promptly swallowed 22 sleeping pills.
Director, Lauren Canfield, will focus on the play as it was intended to be presented, drawing out all the character and situational humor, in the rapid fire pace that this well crafted comedy dishes up!
