” A compelling evening of malicious wit” – The New York Times

Step into the boudoirs and salons where dangerous liaisons and illicit assignations unfold…

In Christopher Hampton’s popular and titillating version of Pierre-Ambroise Choderlos de la Clos’  Les Liaison Dangereuses the stakes are high, and the game of seduction is win or die. Once lovers, Valmont and Merteuil, launch a dangerous game, risking reputations, fortunes, and the lives of others in a manipulative power struggle. This devilishly sexy show is for those with such an appetite….

Steven Tarnow is Le Vicomte de Valmont and Andrea Catangay is La Marquise de Merteuil.   The lovers/rivals, lead each other in an intricate, devious and delicious pas de deux.

ACatangay Headshot1 2017 150x150 Les Liaisons DangereusesAndrea Catangay, currently a drama teacher at Charleston County School of the Arts, is no stranger to the stage. She and her husband are well known in the lowcountry as founders of Deuce Theatre since 2005.

Les Liaisons Dangereuses is being directed by SOBTC Artistic Director Kristen Kos with some help from Fight Director and  Flowertown Players Artistic Director JC Conway.   “JC has a good eye for creating images on stage and great experience in fight choreography which is essential.  I like to focus more on subtlety in acting, stripping away some of the styles of this period play and encouraging realism, particularly for such an intimate space, a modern audience.”

SOBTC’s highly flexible black box space is reconfigured into two sides, with audience arrayed on either side of what we like to think of as the “Dangerous” playing field/battle ground”.

Angelique Cunningham of rosita jones returns to costume the cast in contemporary quixotic attire. Bringing inspiration from elegance throughout the past century, but pulling this 1780s classic firmly into the 21stcentury.
