Season Opener: “One Shoe Off” and who knows where it will go…?
It starts with “One Shoe Off” and who knows where it will go….?!?
One Shoe Off is a doozey of a comedy by Tina Howe, covering at least one favorite topic for everyone: Marriage, fidelity, adulterous longings, existential panic and the theatre. The action takes place in Leonard and Dinah’s up state New York Greek revival farmhouse where slow moving disintegration is at work. Rooms are drifting into each other. Trees and saplings have taken root indoors.
Leonard is an actor who hasn’t worked in eleven years; Dinah is an overworked costume designer who can’t dress herself. They have invited their new neighbors, an overworked editor who delights in reciting nursery rhymes and his beautiful movie starlet wife, for dinner. Things explode when a friend who is a successful movie director drops in. Old memories stir and new passions kindle as vegetables and Dinah’s costumes fly.
Directed by Linda Eisen, who directed last season’s comedy hit: It’s Time to Bring Back Charlie. Linda works her magic with a stellar cast including some of your favorite performers: Lynda Harvey-Carter (The Nance, Gidion’s Knot, Sisters Rosensweig) as Dinah. Kenneth C. Graham (who won a Theatre Charleston Award for his performance in Sylvia) is the hapless Leonard. Tate is played by the adorable Tony Zazella (Charlie in: It’s Time to Bring Back Charlie.) The very talented Robert Forrest and Toyia Brown make their SOBTC debuts as “Parker” and “Clio” respectively.
All performances are at South of Broadway Theatre Company, 1080 E. Montague Avenue (Park Circle), North Charleston, 29405
